Bladeslinger is a gorgeous-looking 3D hack-and-slash action game. The first thing you’ll spot is the graphics- properly impressive and very smooth throughout. Secondly, the combat system is possibly the most intuitive I’ve seen, making battle scenarios easy to engage in and deeply immersive. Aside from this, it’s a very traditional action-fest with a riveting future/cowboy story line that plays well on top-end Android devices.

Features:

Bladeslinger is a new and sublimely visualised action adventure that involves an intriguing storyline and immersive hack-n-slash gameplay. In a nutshell, it’s a console game squeezed and tweaked for mobile handsets- top quality graphics with intuitive touch screen controls. You take the role of William Glaston who has returned from some futuristic war to find his wild-west town home rife with monsters. While he dispatches those lingering around the station, he’s left wondering what the hell is going on.

…it’s a console game squeezed and tweaked for mobile handsets

You play Mr Glaston in 3rd person, using intuitive swipe-touch-screen controls to fight while in combat mode and the usual thumb controls to move and look around. The game features a genius way of teaching you the basic moves so, by the time you face some serious action, you can take out the creatures with comfortable ease, knowing just how to control the right actions.

The game creates a moody atmosphere with excellent use of sound and music. Everything is very immersive and you immediately feel you’re right in the middle of something big. It’s definitely feels like a console game, and you’d probably find worse graphics on some older Xbox and PlayStation games. The description boast on the Google Play Store is that the game offers ‘the best mobile graphics you’ve ever seen’. I don’t wholly agree with this; the likes of Dead Trigger, Dead Space and Shadowgun are equally impressive in my opinion, but Bladeslinger is right up there with the best of them.

Gameplay is very tight and immediately playable, with swiping motions required to attack, defend and move while in combat. It’s a far better system that button tapping and a key strength of the game. The problem many console-style games have is enabling gameplay for touch-screen devices- it’s a big leap away from a dedicated dual-shock controller.  Bladeslinger, however, offers perhaps the most intuitive and easy-to-master system I’ve played.

Gameplay is very tight and immediately playable

I had little issue with the game aside from handset warming- everything was smooth and ran well, despite the demanding graphics. Other users haven’t been so lucky however and have noted frequent crashes as raised on the Google Play Store comments. However, for such a rich experience I would certainly recommend trying the Free version of the game out, to check it works OK and perhaps savor the graphics and combat system, which are the best features of the game.

The game is very engaging and, given some time, could become quite addictive. Dispatching baddies is rewarding, partly due to the very tactile control system so it’s certainly a game you’d have lots of fun playing. The game requires little in the way of thought, so puzzle fans might not get much of a kick from this, but for action game fans, and gamers who love rich graphics and delicious game violence, this is pure excellence.
