Pros & Cons:
Pros
Cool graphics!
Great sound!
Regular, involving missions!
Simple, easy to pick up gameplay!
Cons
Gameplay can feel repetitive.
Features:
Excalibur is an exciting game in the fantasy mould, where you play a fabled character as he/she completes various missions from the heart of Camelot. The game is multi-player so, while there’s the opportunity to go solo in your missions, if you’re more sociable you can team up for co-op adventures and even join guilds.
There are various weapons and powers you can add to your arsenal…
Graphics are actually quite cool, despite only really being 2D and side-scrolling (think retro arcade titles like Double Dragon) and you control your character’s movement via an onscreen thumb control to the left, then weapons are based to the right. There are various weapons and powers you can add to your arsenal and these are usually pretty effective. You ca upgrade both your skills and your physical weaponry but these are time/level locked so you can only enhance equipment bit by bit.
The game is free to play and comes with all the trappings of a big online game; guilds, messages and forums, in-app purchases, promotions, new missions etc etc. This adds significant depth to the game and always gives you plenty to do. Most missions are just of the hack n slash variety. You are usually sent via a portal to a location consisting of baddies and maybe a boss of some kind. These then have to be killed as quickly as possible using your abilities. Once you’ve done this, you pull a fancy move and claim up to three stars.
If you’re a fan of MMORPG’s, this is an excellent little game to have on your Android. Aside from very occasionally choppy gameplay, everything runs well and it’s an easy game to immerse yourself in for a few minutes or a few hours. There are always loads and loads of missions to complete, abilities and skills to enhance a seemingly infinite variety of boosts and upgrades- it’s quite mind-boggling for the uninitiated.
If you’re a fan of MMORPG’s, this is an excellent little game to have on your Android.
The gameplay is complimented by pretty decent sound and music, which help immerse you all the more into the adventure. I think because most missions can be completed in a short space of time, plus the spoils of battle seem incredibly generous to begin with, it’s a game you could get quite addicted to. I think you really need to be ‘into’ action fantasy games in general, but there’s still plenty for the average gamer too.
