Pros & Cons:
Pros
Fun, challenging and totally addictive space shooter game!
Earn points to buy upgrades for your craft!
Awesome graphics with atmospheric music!
Cons
Annoying full screen ads after every turn.
Minor: looking at the lobby space flying background animation nauseating.
FEATURE:
Space Shooter Ultimate brings all the nostalgia of space shooter arcade gaming to phones and tablets! You start as a sole craft battling barrages of persistent baddies trying to collide into you or blast you out space. The more you annihilate the more points you accumulate. These points are used to upgrade your craft (optionally you can purchase them with real cash). You can upgrade your weapons, ship armor, laser and Droid Support. When first starting out I would advise saving enough to buy Droid Support first because it follows you and adds a second and more powerful canon to your arsenal. Next, I would recommend beefing up your shields for lasting longer when hit followed by weapons- extending to multi-canons, and lastly the laser fire which recharges and releases a short deadly load eliminating anything in it’s path.
You control the ship & fire by holding and dragging on the screen. There’s a slight delay in drag controls, it might be hindering for some but I see it as an added challenge to the game. It has a delay inertia similar to the Droid Support trailing, you quickly get adjusted to it. There is strategy too as you can use some of the large boulders to block enemy fire hiding behind them or destroy them for the points and fly forward to avoid collisions. As you progress you are introduced to more annoying yet tough ships in which you soon learn how they operate as they become almost predictable in their movement. Just when you do get acquainted another is around the corner in the next level. In order to advance levels you must make it to the end of level boss and defeat them.
The graphics are awesome dripping with explosions and fast-paced non-stop action. There is also a soothing atmospheric tune saturating the background as you play. My only issues with the game is the full screen ads that take over after any turn. And when looking at the background animation in the lobby area, the space flight background is quite nauseating, similar to the massive complaints iOS 7 users up-roared about regarding the navigation animations when upgrading their devices.
